BLUE MOON, THEME OF CLASS NIGHT 1958

The glow of a blue moon shining down on green grass, living trees, a profusion of blooming flowers, park benches, and a fountain transformed County High's gym into a setting of beauty for Class Night of 1958. The theme of "Blue Moon" was carried over into the background music played by Mrs. Jayne Drury and Mr. E. L. Overfield, faculty members, as the class members strolled into this lively setting.

The program was opened with the melodious voice of Jo Etta Hancock singing "My Best To You".

Minnie Billings, class Salutatorian, welcomed the audience in a gracious manner. An original class poem written by Joe Croft was effectively read by Ann Simpson.

A trio of senior girls--Cynthia Crenshaw, Lindy Butler and Jo Etta Hancock--then sang "Blue Night".

Jack Caudill, class president for all four high school years, made an appropriate address.

The job of distributing apt gifts to the class was divided into two groups. The first half was presented by Betty Ann Carter, James Williams, Lola Lindsey and Dexter Lewis.

A quartet consisting of Steve Tolbert, Joe Hatfield, James Williams and John Hardin sang "On Great Lone Hills". The bequests made by the class were read by Leslie Young, followed by the class Grumbler, Wyatt Newman (written by Tommy Garrard).

"Night and Day" was the piano solo played by Judy Overfield.

Linda Sullivan, Kenneth Foster, Susie Bruce, and Steve Tolbert completed distributing gifts to the class.

Joe Hatfield's song "May The Good Lord Bless and Keep You" set the mood for the closing portion of the program.

Thanks and good-bye were given by Eunice Tooley in her scholarly valedictory speech.

As the class left the park, the strains of "Beyond the Blue Horizon" fill the air.

The musical numbers on the program were all accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Walker.

A "Sock Hop" was enjoyed by many after the program.

THE PROM

The Rose Room of the McCurdy Hotel in Evansville was the site chosen for the senior's annual dinner-dance which was held the evening of May 15, 1958 from seven until eleven. Approximately 150 seniors, guests, and sponsors enjoyed the gala affair which started with a delicious four course meal consisting of chilled fruit cup, combination salad, roast sirlion of beef au jus, whipped potatoes, green peas, hot rolls and butter, iced tea, milk or coffee, and ice cream.

Immediately following the dinner, Glenn Gregory's eight piece orchestra provided music for dancing.

From the eighth floor of the hotel's glass front lounge the view of the flood swolen river reflecting the lights of the city at night was awe-inspiring.

Special guests of the evening were: Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Clinton Easley, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Roberts, Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Drury, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Crawford and Mr. Mark Williams.
